Over the years working with families here in Southern Indiana and Louisville, I’ve seen firsthand how easily life insurance conversations can slip through the cracks. In fact, a recent study found that 78% of global families haven’t had a real, in-depth talk about life insurance—proof that long-term coverage planning is often delayed or simply overlooked. What’s more, 60% of adult children assumed their parents had coverage, yet only 44% of parents said they actually did. That’s a big gap, and it doesn’t stop at insurance—families are also missing key discussions around retirement, healthcare costs, and legacy planning, which can leave loved ones unprepared when it matters most.
One simple, practical habit I encourage is holding a family meeting each year, or after big life changes, to talk through protection needs and make sure everyone’s on the same page. These open conversations, paired with guidance from a financial professional, help make sure life insurance becomes an intentional part of your bigger saving, investing, and retirement picture. My experience—both as an insurance advisor and as someone who’s owned a small business for decades—has taught me that real peace of mind starts with honest, ongoing planning.
